Short Story: The Power Of Words

Read Time: 2.30 Minutes

Take a minute, think about the last word you just used..

Was it hurtful or helpful to the person who received it?

Here is a short story of the power of one word.

Son: Hello Dad! Hello... Hellooo, can you hear me?

Dad: Yes son, I can, what's wrong?

Son: Actually there is nothing wrong, I have some good news for you.

Dad: Owkie... (Silence) go ahead ...

Son: (excited) I wanted to let you know that I got 7 straight A's in my end of semester exam.

Dad: Actually son I'm busy right now, I will call you later. See yah!

A week passes on; dad never inquired about the good news. His son's worries that his father did not care about him were now ascertained.

Two weeks, the son began drinking, when asked. "If the person I care soo much about do not care about me, why should I ?"

After three months his father receives a phone call notifying him that his son has been hospitalized in the county hospital for drug overdose...

He drops everything and dashes to the hospital

On his arrival

Doctors: 1-2-3 go! Puff! -  1-2-3 go! puff!  -  1-2-3 go! puff!

         ...Patient name! Confirm time!

He watches as doctors take shots in an attempt to save his son life helplessly.

"...I am sorry Sir for meeting you in such circumstance, your son fought courageously against the attack but unfortunately his lungs collapsed..."

-Doctor's words to him.

Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm and to humble.

"I'm busy" was enough to burn and break his son.

Whenever you alter a word, think carefully about the ears they will land on. Because they can either help or harm.

Stay blessed!
